1999 Concerts

October 3rd, 1999

Our first concert was held on Sunday, 3 October, featuring Winston Webber as our guest conductor.(See attached personal sketch) Winston has agreed to be the Coach for The Strings this year making our first concert of the season a memorable one for both the audience and the orchestra.

Our programme for this concert was:

  • Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No.2  (Arcangelo Corelli)
  • Organ Concerto No. 13 in F   (George Frideric Handel)
  • Battalia (Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber)
  • Elegy  (Edward Elgar)
  • Sarabande and Gavotte, from Holberg Suite (Edvard Grieg)
  • Playful Pizzicato, from Simple Symphony (Benjamin Britten)
  • Organ Concerto (Robert Cundick)

November 7th and 8th, 1999

Our second concert featuring Karen Donnelly, principal trumpet of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, (See attached personal sketch) as our guest soloist was given on Sunday, November 7th, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of St. John the Evangelist.  The programme was repeated the following evening, Monday, November 8th as a part of FestivArts '99, sponsored by the Gloucester Arts Council.

Our programme for this second concert:

  • Short Overture for Strings (Jean Berger)
  • Sinfonia in D (Giuseppe Tartini)
  • Trumpet Concerto in E-flat (Johann Baptist Georg Neruda)
  • The Hollow Men (Vincent Persichetti)
  • Suite in F for strings (C. Hubert H. Parry)

December 19th and 20th, 1999

Christmas Concert

 Our third concert of the season was a Christmas Concert with guest soloist Shawne Elizabeth, soprano, accompanied by The Choir of St. John the Evangelist

March 24th and 26th 2000

Our fourth concert of the season with our guest solist Tina Fedeski, solo flute, (see attached personal sketch) was held at Woodroffe United Church on Friday March 24th and at The Church of St. John the Evangelist on Sunday March 26th.
