Cynthia Beyea received her bachelor's degree in music (with distinction) from the University of Calgary. A British Columbia Arts Award aided her in
travelling to the Chicago area where she received her master's degree at Northwestern University under the esteemed saxophonist and pedagogue Frederick Hemke. She also holds a Bachelor of
Education summa cum laude from the University of Ottawa.
Ms. Beyea has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout western Canada, as well as in Quebec and the United States. She has been the
alto saxophonist with the Nelligan Saxophone Quartet (Montreal) since 1995, a group which specializes in the commissioning and performance of works by Canadian composers. Currently based in
the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal, she pursues an active schedule of performing, teaching young musicians and coaching chamber ensembles.
