David Martin began his career on the trombone. After obtaining a Master’s Degree in performance at Northwestern University, he joined the
Montreal Symphony, recording the classical performances of Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique and Stravinsky’s Sacre du Printemps.
He went on to Orchestra London Canada as principal trombone and resident conductor. There he became the music director of the
popular “Jeans and Classics” series. In addition to Jeans and Classics, he now works as arranger and conductor of his own series of Pops concerts across Canada, one of which is a salute to the
great Swing era trombonists “Glenn, Tommy and Jack”.
He has appeared as guest conductor with the orchestras of Calgary, Edmonton, Symphony Nova Scotia, Thunder Bay, Kitchener-Waterloo,
Mesa Arizona and many others.
As a conductor, he has worked with both classical artists and a wide variety of Jazz and Pop performers: Dianne Reeves, Holly Cole, Gene
DiNovi, Dave Young, and the late Moe Koffman, Alan Frew of Glass Tiger, Lawrence Gowan (currently with Styx) and former Triumph frontman Rik Emmett, to name a few.
This season, in addition to his numerous conducting appearances he has been busy writing for the Montreal Symphony’s Pops series.
